Outlook
2000 Email Setup
Note: Outlook
Express is very similar to configure as
Outlook, and works fine for just email.
Outlook verses Outlook Express has many
more features for Notes, Calendars, Appointments,
Reminders, Collaboration, etc. You can
check out an article by ZDNet for additional
help using Outlook
express.
We are assuming you are using Outlook 2000,
instead of Outlook Express or an older version of Outlook.
However, any of these will work fine, but these instructions
are specific to Outlook 2000 for Microsoft Windows.
Here are the steps. Be sure to substitute
any reference to "name"
with your account/user name, and
any reference to
"domain_name.com"
with your domain name.
1) Connect to the internet with your ISP
(not AOL).
2) Startup Outlook 2000
3) Go to the "Tools" pull down menu and
choose "Accounts ..."
4) Choose the "Mail" tab
5) Press the "Add" button --> "Mail"
6) Display Name = "name"
(Next) (NOTE: Don't enter the quotes)
7) Email Addr = "name@domain_name.com"
(Next)
8) Incoming Mail Server type = "POP3"
9) Incoming Mail Server = "domain_name.com"
10)Outgoing Mail Server = "domain_name.com"
(Next)
11) Account Name = "name"
12) Password = to be provided (case sensitive)
13) Remember password = checked/Yes
14) Secure connection SPA = NotChecked/NO
(Next)
15) Connect Using .... "Phone" (This is
going to be specific to how your computer
environment is setup) (Next)
16) At this point it may ask you what
type of dialup connection you want to
use. You should choose to use your existing
Dialup connection with your existing ISP.
17) Press "Finish"
18) You should now be back to the Window
with your new account being displayed
under the "Mail" tab as "domain_name.com"
19) Select or Highlight the new account
then press the "Properties" button
20) At the "General" tab change the Name
= "Abc at Company XYZ" or
whatever.
21) Also change the "Reply Email Addr"
= "name@domain_name.com"
22) Select or Highlight the new account
"Abc at Company XYZ" and click
the "Default" button, to make this account
your default email account.
23) Click OK to save and exit this window.
24) You may also want to check some of
the option settings by choosing the "Tools"
pull down menu then selecting the "Options...".
25) In particular, look at the "Dialup
Options" setting. You may not want to
"Hangup after sending and receiving email".
26) Have someone send you some email and
give it a try by pressing the "Send/Receive"
button.
NOTE - AOL does not
support any 3rd party email programs,
so as a result this configuration is NOT
an option for AOL users.
